Self-Managed Super Fund is not for everyone. The complex regulations and reporting requirements require the Trustee to understand their role and responsibilities. SMSFs can be seen as attractive for retirement scheme to allow the trustee to have total control over the investment strategy and can tailor the fund to meet their individual needs. This also means the trustees responsible for its set-up, on-going administration fees and ATO compliance.
Since exemption that relates to advising in establishing and winding up an SMSF is being removed (Regulation 7.1.29A), from 1 July 2016 only appropriately licensed person or entity under Australian Financial Service can do these activities. However, the Accountant still allows performing administration, compliance and tax advice in respect SMSFs.
